Letting Go of the Past

In EMDR, we practice the presence of being. We practice the art of noticing.

This presence is a powerful force. This is not just wishful thinking or nice thoughts.

When you begin to realize this difference between presence and thought, you will be on the road to many great things.

Presence is not just thinking.

It is consciousness to right now.

It is mind, body, spirit awareness to life as it is in this moment.

With EMDR, it is, “When you think about that event, tell me what you feel in your body right now? What are you feeling viscerally? What do you notice right here, right now.”

When we are present to something, it cannot stay the same.

Only when we ruminate and dwell on something with our ego, with our mind, does something stay the same.

You may have relived certain memories from your past over and over.

You may have never been present to them. That’s ok and completely normal because you most likely need more resource for that.

Counseling can be that invaluable resource to allow you to be present to your past in order to finally let it go.
